Southview was the last community developed in the Forest Lawn area. The Forest Lawn region is an area in SE Calgary that surrounds 17 Avenue SE and consists of a few communities, including the Forest Lawn neighbourhood. Although Southview is not much newer (it was established in 1950), Southview real estate features a bit more modern styles and layouts. There is a mixture of single-family houses and condos in the community, in addition to many shops, grocery stores and restaurants along 17 Avenue SE. The SE Calgary community of Southview is located directly east of Deerfoot Trail, up the hill from the Bow River. It is south of 17 Avenue SE and north of 26 Avenue SE, east of 36 Street SE. Nearby communities are Dover to the south, Forest Lawn to the east, Albert Park/Radisson Heights to the north, and across the Bow River is Inglewood.
Along 17 Avenue SE in the northern part of the community are a variety of shops, services and restaurants. The southern side of the community contains residential streets dotted with parks and athletic fields. Southview real estate includes mostly detached houses built in the 1950s, and there are also attached homes, condos and newer developments too.
Southview has an active community association that runs an outdoor skating rink.
The neighbourhood has excellent access via 17 Avenue SE, which connected directly to Deerfoot Trail. The Bow River pathway runs along the western edge of the community and travels along the river throughout the entire city. Also, Calgary Transit runs a variety of bus routes along 17 Avenue SE and into the community.
