With a combination of older homes and newly built houses, Briar Hill is a popular inner-city community. Many houses have outstanding views, and the lots are extra large with many big trees.
Briar Hill is considered an inner city community in Calgary. It is north of West Hillhurst and Hillhurst and just south of 16 Avenue North. It has good access to downtown and is close to Kensington, a fun area with many local shops and bars. The Calgary Transit LRT station (Lions Park station) is located in Briar Hill, and the stop is just behind North Hill Shopping Centre. On the east side, Briar Hill is bordered by 14 Street West. SAIT, ACAD and the Jubilee Auditorium are located just across 14 Street. Capitol Hill is the community just across 16 Avenue North.
Briar Hill was once referred to as Houndsfield Heights. In the late 1880’s, the family of Thomas Riley-Houndsfield settled in the area. However, most people will only refer to this community as Briar Hill.
