In the NW corner of Calgary is the community of Citadel. It is located off Stoney Trail, in between Country Hills Boulevard and Sarcee Trail. Nearby communities are Royal Oak (to the west), Arbour Lake and Hawkwood (to the south), Hamptons (to the east) and Sherwood (to the north).
The neighbourhood was established in 1993 and Citadel real estate now has a mixture of detached houses, townhomes and condos. Citadel has a variety of parks, fields and green spaces spread throughout the community. There are also a few schools – Citadel Park Elementary School and St. Brigid Catholic School – and a few small shopping options in Citadel.
Citadel is nearby a few major shopping centres. Beacon Hill Shopping Centre is up Sarcee Trail and has many major retailers and a Costco. Across Stoney Trail is the Northwest Auto Mall, which as a variety of new and used car dealerships. Crowfoot Crossing Shopping Centre is south of Citadel and has shopping, dining and a large move theatre.
Citadel has convenient access for vehicles via Stoney Trail, Calgary’s main ring road that circles the city. Connections to Crowchild Trail and Deerfoot Trail lead drivers to downtown, or quickly to Calgary’s south quadrants. Calgary Transit buses connect to the Crowfoot LRT station, where trains depart for downtown and travel through the University of Calgary and SAIT.
