Dalhousie is a NW Calgary community that is north of Crowchild Trail. It is located between Shaganappi Trail and Sarcee Trail, south of John Laurie Boulevard. Nearby communities are around the same age and style as Dalhousie. The neighbourhoods are Ranchlands, Edgemont, Brentwood and Varsity.
The community can be easily accessed via Crowchild Trail, which travels from the northwestern limits of the city to the south, passing near downtown. There is also a Calgary Transit LRT station named after the community. While the LRT station is walkable from all parts of the community, buses regularly travel through Dalhousie and connect to the Dalhousie LRT station.
Dalhousie was named after George Ramsay, the 9th Earl of Dalhousie. He was the Governor General of British North America from 1820 to 1828.
Today the Calgary community of Dalhousie has around 9,000 residents. There are four schools in the community, three run by the Calgary Board of Education and one by the Calgary Catholic School District. For post-secondary students, the University of Calgary is a short drive or train ride down Crowchild Trail.
Dalhousie has a few shopping centres, including Dalhousie Station. Many more major shopping centres are located up and down Crowchild Trail. There is also an active community association serving Dalhousie.
