In the NW quadrant of Calgary is the community of Highwood. It is located between 4 Street West and John Laurie Boulevard, north of 40 Avenue North. In the centre of the community is a park with an outdoor pool, skating rink and schools, offering Highwood residents a walkable destination to play and learn. The Highwood real estate market is a mixture of homes built in the 1950s and 1960s, newer developments, duplexes and condos. All the current Highwood homes for sale can be viewed here, and more information about the community is available below.
Originally established in 1954, Highwood is now a neighbourhood with quiet streets and easy access to many nearby amenities. The community is a square shape, with four main roads at each border – John Laurie Boulevard, McKnight Boulevard, 4 Street West and 40 Avenue North. The residential streets all surround a large park and athletic field in the centre of the neighbourhood.
Highwood real estate features bungalows and multi-level houses built in the late 1950s and 1960s. There are also a few attached homes and condo complexes, some older and some newer. Surrounding communities are North Haven, Thorncliffe, Highland Park, Cambrian Heights and Queens Park Village.
There are many roads heading north and south nearby Highwood, making driving to downtown a breeze. In addition, McKnight Boulevard extends directly to Deerfoot Trail, a major road that travels north to Edmonton and south to Lethbridge. Calgary Transit serves the community with a variety of bus routes and most buses travel to and through the city’s core.
The centre of the community is home to a few schools (Highwood School, Colonel Irvine School and Foundations for the Future Charter Academy), an outdoor pool and the community centre. The Highwood Community Centre runs a playschool, square dance club, hall rentals and more.
