Nestled along the Bow River valley in SE Calgary is the community of McKenzie Lake. The neighbourhood, which is named after the man-made lake located in the middle of the community, is situated at the corner of Deerfoot Trail and Stoney Trail. McKenzie Lake runs along the Bow River valley and many houses back onto the large green area and have views of the river. Across Deerfoot Trail is the community of McKenzie Towne, south is Cranston and north of McKenzie Lake is Douglasdale.
Right in the middle of the community is the lake, which is surrounded by beautiful houses. There is also a beach in the southwest corner of the lake. The residents’ association runs many events and programming, including swim lessons, tennis lessons, water polo, yoga, movie nights and more. There are also shelters and a hall available to residents to rent.
All along the western side of the community is the Bow River valley. There are pathways that connect to the city’s multi-use pathway network and a pedestrian bridge that goes into Fish Creek Provincial Park and to Sikome Lake. In addition, the McKenzie Meadows Golf Club is in the southwest corner of the community, along the river.
McKenzie Lake also has a school and nearby is a large shopping centre (just across Deerfoot Trail). Not only are Deerfoot Trail and Stoney Trail nearby, but McKenzie Lake can also be easily accessed by a few Calgary Transit bus routes.
