The community was a military base from 1933 to 1998. The original facility was called the “Currie Barracks” after a recently deceased general, Sir Arthur William Currie. The base was renamed in 1968 to CFB Calgary. After personnel were relocated to CFB Edmonton in 1998, the base was decommissioned and the site was redeveloped. It has since hosted Cirque du Soleil and military warehouses have been used for film and television productions.
