Somerset is located adjacent to Macleod Trail, just north of Highway 22X. It was established in 1995 and is one of the newest neighbourhoods in the area. Nearby communities (which include Bridlewood and Shawnessy) were established in the 1980s. Silverado is another newer community and is south of Somerset, across Highway 22X.
Calgary Transit offers a variety of bus routes that travel through the community, all connecting to the Somerset/Bridlewood LRT station. Trains connect directly to downtown and travel to the NW, passing through SAIT and the University of Calgary.
Somerset real estate is diverse. With the LRT station within the community, Somerset has some higher density properties in addition to many single-family homes.
In addition to convenient transit access, Somerset is also nearby major roadways. Macleod Trail travels directly to downtown, and Highway 22X travels east-west.
There is a large shopping complex in the community, with major retailers, restaurants, movie theatres and a wide range of services. All along Macleod Trail are more shops and services, stretching all the way to the city’s core.
Somerset has a few parks in the community and a few school, including Bishop O’Byrne High School, Somerset School and Samuel W. Shaw School. There is also an active community association along with Bridlewood.
