Sunalta is a small community in SW Calgary, close to the Beltline and downtown. It is an old community, established in the early 1900’s. Although Sunalta is located very close to hustle of 17 Avenue South, the Beltline and downtown, it is a quiet and charming neighbourhood. Sunalta is located between the Bow River and 17 Avenue South, just east of 14 Street West. There is quick access to Crowchild Trail, which connects directly to the northwest and down to the south to Glenmore Trail.
The neighborhood features many quiet streets with a mixture of condos and early-1900’s homes. Sunalta real estate is diverse, and it offers a place for both first-time homeowners and more established property owners. The communities to the south include Bankview and Scarboro, while the Beltline is to the east.
The Sunalta LRT station is only one stop to the downtown free-fare zone, and from there connects with trains headed south or north (which connects directly to SAIT or the University of Calgary). The Calgary Greyhound bus depot is located in Sunalta and is walkable from any corner of the community.
For recreationists, the Calgary Tennis Club has 9 courts and a clubhouse. It offers tennis lessons, tournaments and events for all ages. Nearby the Sunalta LRT station is the Sunalta Community Centre, which features regular events, shows and programming.
There are two elementary schools in Sunalta – Sacred Heart Elementary and Sunalta School. Built in 1910, the Sunalta School is rated highly.
Sunalta has exciting arts and entertainment events. There is a contemporary art gallery, blues bar and the shops and nightlife of 17 Avenue South are minutes away.
