Woodlands is located in SW Calgary, south of Anderson Road and north of Fish Creek Provincial Park. It is halfway between Macleod Trail and 37 Street West (the western boundary of Calgary). On the north and west side of Woodlands are similar communities, including Woodbine, Cedarbrae, Braeside and Canyon Meadows. On the other side of Fish Creek Park are Evergreen and Shawnee Slopes.
Woodlands is nearby outdoor and indoor recreation, with parks, golf courses and recreation centres within minutes of the community. Fish Creek Provincial Park is one of North America’s largest urban parks. It extends across the city and contains many pathways, picnic sites, nature walks and scenic viewpoints. Many plants and animals call Fish Creek Park their home.
The Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club is located within Woodlands. This premier private club started in 1953, and it is now one of southern Alberta’s top courses.
For indoor fun, the Southland Leisure Centre has a wave pool, slides, climbing wall, arenas, squash courts and more. The leisure centre has events, classes and programming for both the young and old.
Woodlands is a short drive to the Calgary Transit Canyon Meadows LRT station. Trains regularly depart to the northwest, stopping in downtown and at SAIT and the University of Calgary. Southcentre Mall is also not far away.
There is a school in the community. Woodlands is part of the Woodcreek Community Association along with Woodbine.
