Britannia consists mainly detached single family homes in the higher price ranges. Homes were mostly built in the 1950s and many from that era are still available. In recent years, numerous older homes have been replaced by larger, newer 2-story properties. Many homes along the edge enjoy gorgeous views of the Elbow River and Downtown Calgary. There are fewer condos available in Britannia; Britannia Park Manor is one example of a low rise building with apartments in this community.
Location of Britannia
As an inner-city community, the commute to downtown is easy via Elbow Drive. Via Elbow Drive, to the south is Glenmore Trail, while 50th Avenue SW takes traffic quickly to McLeod Trail. Calgary Transit serves the community with buses that run along Elbow Drive. The 39 Avenue South C-Train station is the nearest.
Sandy Beach Park and Riverdale Park are very nearby for walks and bike rides. Pathways for pedestrians, runners and cyclists follow the Elbow River, connecting the Glenmore Reservoir to downtown. Immediately south of Britannia is the prestigious Calgary Golf & Country Club.

Adjacent communities include Elbow Park to the north, and Elboya to the east. Both communities are similar communities to Britannia. To the south lies Windsor Park, and across the Elbow River the community of Altadore.
Shops in and near Britannia
Right within Britannia is the Britannia Plaza, featuring a block of specialty stores, including a specialty supermarket. Additionally, more shops are available along Elbow Drive, leading to Chinook Centre Mall, Calgary’s largest indoor shopping centre.
