Originally established in 1954, Highwood is now a neighbourhood with quiet streets and easy access to many nearby amenities. The community is a square shape, with four main roads at each border – John Laurie Boulevard, McKnight Boulevard, 4 Street West and 40 Avenue North. The residential streets all surround a large park and athletic field in the centre of the neighbourhood.
