On the banks of the Bow River as it approaches downtown Calgary is the NW community of Parkdale. It is south of 16 Avenue North (Trans-Canada Highway in Calgary) and east of Shaganappi Trail. Parkdale can be accessed from the south via Bowness Road/3 Avenue North or from the north via 29 Street West. Parkdale is surrounded by Point McKay on its southwestern edge, St. Andrews Heights on its northeastern border, and West Hillhurst directly to the east.
Parkdale was established in 1948 and many bungalows were constructed in the 1950s. Some original bungalows still exist, and many properties have been rebuilt into modern homes, duplexes and townhomes. Parkdale also has a few condo complexes. Since the neighbourhood is located on an escarpment, many homes have outstanding views of the river and valley below.
