The Vista Heights community is bound to the south by 16 Avenue North (which is also the Trans Canada Highway through Calgary) and to the west by Deerfoot Trail. On the northern side is 32 Avenue North and on the eastern side is Barlow Trail. Nearby communities include a mixture of industrial areas and other residential communities.

Most of the community was developed in the 1960s. Vista Heights real estate is comprised of a mixture of detached bungalows and townhomes, including properties that have been renovated into modern styles and designs.

Vista Heights is well-connected, primarily due to its close distance to Deerfoot Trail and 16 Avenue North. Calgary Transit buses run down 16 Avenue and connect to LRT stations and travel into downtown. The LRT Blue Line runs nearby along 36 Avenue and offers direct access into downtown and beyond to the western edge of the city.

In the community is a large park that offers extraordinary views of downtown and the Rocky Mountains to the west. There are a variety of athletic fields and baseball diamonds in the park, in addition to pathways that connect to Calgary’s multi-use pathway network. Vista Heights has a school in the community, and many shopping options are available along 16 Avenue or to the east at Sunridge Mall.
