Montgomery is a NW Calgary community that is on the slope that rises from the Bow River. Most roads in the community follow a grid, but the avenues run northwest to southeast (different from straight west to east, as in the rest of the city) and streets run northeast to southwest. Montgomery is situated in between the river and 32 Avenue North, and it is bordered by the University of Calgary on the east edge and Shouldice Park on the west side.
After being established as a community in 1911, Montgomery became a town in 1957. Only six years later, the town was incorporated into Calgary.
Montgomery real estate is mostly single-family homes, extensively differing in ages and styles. There are also a few townhome and condo complexes. Communities surrounding Montgomery are Bowness and Varsity to the north, and the University of Calgary to the east.
Many shops and services are located along 16 Avenue North and Bowness Road. With restaurants and schools in the community, Montgomery has all important amenities. There are many notable parks nearby. Shouldice Park (located across 16 Avenue North) has athletic fields, baseball diamonds, batting cages, picnic sites and firepits. A pedestrian bridge over the Bow River connects to Edworthy Park, a large park with an off-least area, pathways and picnic shelters.
