In the NW quadrant of Calgary is the community of Ranchlands. Established in 1977, the community has parks, large lots and fast access to shops and transit. Ranchlands is a community along Crowchild Trail, about halfway between downtown and the city limits. It is located on the north side of Crowchild Trail, between Nose Hill Drive and Sarcee Trail. John Laurie Boulevard is on the northern edge. The neighbourhood is split into two areas: Ranchlands, which has a diverse mixture of houses, townhomes and condos, and Ranchlands Estates, which is in the northeast corner and has single family homes on large lots, many of which border grassy natural areas.
Communities nearby (which are Arbour Lake to the west, Hawkwood to the north, Dalhousie to the east and Silver Springs to the south across Crowchild Trail) have similar aged homes.
The community has a few schools – Ranchlands School and St. Rita Elementary School. There are a few large parks and green spaces in Ranchlands, most notable Ranchero Park and Ranchlands Community Park. The Ranchlands Community Association has events, programming for all ages and hall rentals.
There is easy access into Ranchlands from all sides expect from Crowchild Trail. Calgary Transit also serves the community with a few buses that connect quickly to nearby LRT stations. Trains travel to the south, passing through the University of Calgary, SAIT and downtown.
A variety of shopping complexes are nearby. From indoor malls (such as Market Mall) to large shopping centres (such as Crowfoot Crossing), there is no shortage of shopping options.
