Silver Springs is a NW Calgary community on the hill that rises above the weaving Bow River. The community has shopping, school and recreation, all nearby a huge natural park and transit. In the NW quadrant of Calgary is Silver Springs. It is just south of Crowchild Trail, in between Silver Springs Gate and Nose Hill Drive. The community can also be accessed from Stoney Trail. The Bow River and a large park borders the southern edge.
Communities nearby Silver Springs are Scenic Acres, Varsity and Ranchlands, and Bowness is just across the river.
Silver Springs real estate is mostly detached homes, many with views of the Bow River valley. Within the community are three schools – Silver Springs Elementary, W.O. Mitchell Elementary and St. Sylvester Elementary. There are also two shopping centres and an active community association.
The southern edge of Silver Springs is a large park, Bowmont Natural Park. It is often referred to as the “gully” or “ravine” by local residents because it dips down a hill towards the river. There are trails, picnic spots, athletic fields and an off-leash area in the park, and pathways that connect to the city’s multi-use pathway network.
Silver Springs is nearby two Calgary Transit LRT stations (Dalhousie and Crowfoot), and buses travel through the community and connect to the stations. Commutes are quick for both downtown workers and students heading to the University of Calgary and SAIT.
Although named after the community, the Silver Springs Golf Course is in the neighbouring community of Varsity.
