Nestled between Nose Hill Park and Deerfoot Trail is the community of Thorncliffe. The community is in both the NE and NW quadrants of the city, with Centre Street acting as the divider. Thorncliffe is a community that is north of downtown in both the NE and NW quadrants. It stretches from McKnight Boulevard to 64 Avenue North, from John Laurie Boulevard to Deerfoot Trail. The residential communities nearby Thorncliffe are Huntington Hills to the north, Upper North Haven and North Haven to the west, and Highwood and Highland Park to the south.
The neighbourhood was established in 1954 and now has a variety of homes and condos. Thorncliffe real estate has older and newer styles, with mostly detached houses. There are also a few condos and attached homes in the neighbourhood.
Not only is there shopping, restaurants and many amenities in the neighbourhood, but there are also a few schools (Colonel Sanders School, Thorncliffe Elementary School and Corpus Christi Elementary School). Thorncliffe also has a community association that organizes programming for all ages and operates recreation facilities, hall rentals, meeting rooms and fitness rooms. Community association members also have access to a campground near Water Valley, Alberta.
The Thornhill Recreation Facility has a public pool, hot tub, fitness studio and on-site babysitting. Pathways in the community connect to Nose Hill Park and to the Nose Creek pathway system on the east side of the community.
Thorncliffe can be easily accessed via 14 Street West, 4 Street West and Centre Street. Both McKnight Boulevard and 64 Avenue North connect to Deerfoot Trail. Calgary Transit runs many bus routes through the community that directly travel to downtown.
