The neighbourhood, which is named after the man-made lake located in the middle of the community, is situated at the corner of Deerfoot Trail and Stoney Trail. McKenzie Lake runs along the Bow River valley and many houses back onto the large green area and have views of the river. Across Deerfoot Trail is the community of McKenzie Towne, south is Cranston and north of McKenzie Lake is Douglasdale.
Right in the middle of the community is the lake, which is surrounded by beautiful houses. There is also a beach in the southwest corner of the lake. Sikome Lake is located in Fish Creek Park and has swimming and parks.
