Named after a curve in the Bow River, Riverbend is a SE Calgary neighbourhood located along the river. It has a unique location off Glenmore Trial, but still offers many shopping and school choices. The Bow River is the biggest river in Calgary and flows from the western edge to near downtown and then turns south. As the river travels south, it curves nearby Glenmore Trail. That is where the SE Calgary community of Riverbend is located.
Riverbend is accessed off Glenmore Trail via 18 Street East. It is bounded by 28 Street East on the eastern side and Quarry Park Boulevard on the southern side. There are a Calgary Transit bus route that services the area and travel to the Chinook Centre LRT station.
The community was built in the 1980s and now has a vibrant mixture of houses. Riverbend real estate is mostly detached houses, but there are also a few attached homes. Nearby communities include Ogden to the north and Douglasdale to the south.
The nearby Bow River has many options for recreation. There are pathways that extend all along the river, and Carburn Park is a beautiful area with skating, fishing and hiking trails. Across the river via a pedestrian bridge is Sue Higgins Park.
Riverbend is home to a few schools (Riverbend School and Holy Angels School) and there is a shopping centre along 18 Street East. There is also an active community association. The many parks, playgrounds, fields and pathways in Riverbend that are great for all ages seeking recreation.
