Chaparral is one of Calgary’s premiere lake communities. It is located in SE Calgary, south of Highway 22x and east of Macleod Trail. These main roads provide great access to all quadrants of the city. In addition, Calgary Transit runs regular buses through the community that connect to nearby LRT stations.
The community has three distinct areas. Chaparral is the biggest part and is between Macleod Trail and Chaparral Boulevard. On the eastern side of Chaparral Boulevard are Chaparral Ridge and Chaparral Valley. Since each areas were built by different developers, each section has a different range of housing options and styles. Chaparral real estate is mostly modern single-family houses, but there are also a few attached and condo complexes.
Residents of the main Chaparral area have access to a private lake, Chaparral Lake. Many homes back right onto the lake, and there is a beach and large park on the northeast corner. There is also a shelter to rent and there is programming for all ages throughout the year.
There are other lake communities nearby Chaparral. Sundance and Midnapore both have private lakes, and in Fish Creek Park there is a public swimming lake.
Chaparral has two schools: Chaparral Elementary School and Saint Sebastian Elementary School. There is also a community association that oversees a community garden and regular events.
