Bow Bottom Trail travels from Deerfoot Trail and Anderson Road south, connecting into Fish Creek Provincial Park. Deer Ridge is on the eastern side of Bow Bottom Trail, just south of Canyon Meadows Drive (which connects to Macleod Trail). These main roads offer easy access into and out of the community. In addition, a few Calgary Transit bus routes travel through the community and stop at the Canyon Meadows LRT station.
Deer Ridge real estate is mostly detached houses, with most built in the 1980s. There are also a few condo complexes of attached homes. Deer Ridge sits on a hill that overlooks the Bow River and Fish Creek Park, and down the ridge is the community of Deer Run. Across Canyon Meadows Drive is Queensland (a slightly older community) and Parkland is across Bow Bottom Trail.
